The designer behind Woodpop is Emma Wood. Emma's background is in the music industry where she started out working for Universal Music in Mexico City before coming back to London to work in the A&R department at EMI Records where she worked with artists such as Kate Bush, Robbie Williams, Kraftwerk and Pink Floyd amongst others. Emma then went on to set up her own producer management company, looking after some of the industry's most reputable producers; her roster of talent producing music for the likes of Gorillaz, Jamie T, Florence And The Machine, Pete Doherty, Peaches and many more.
During her time at EMI Emma started creating design pieces such as pop art lamps and unique pieces of upcycled furniture. Word spread about her one-off designs and soon she was being commissioned to design promotional pieces for various artists and colleagues that she worked with within the industry and Woodpop expanded from there. Not that this kind of work wasn't in Emma's blood, having as

she does, two decorative antique dealers for parents. Their influence could be felt as early as nine years old, when Emma set up a stall outside their shop selling vintage china and jewellery.
Emma's design ethos resonates with our anti-throwaway society; it's recycling for the style-conscious as she re-invents retro and antique pieces of furniture using different techniques thereby making each piece an original. Emma has a hugely vibrant sense of colour and style and nowhere is this more apparent than in her studio which is full of eclectic objects and materials with which she creates her pieces: fantastic bits of furniture spanning 100 years of design, beautiful limited edition wallpaper, antique bottles, 1950s comics, contemporary plastics, vintage wine labels, rare music magazines and a whole lot more besides. Emma's globe-trotting has inspired her designs and much of her material is sourced internationally (New Orleans, Mexico City, Barcelona) with the emphasis being on limited runs / editions and vintage designs.
